Speak. Write. Stay local. Private dictation, processed on your Mac.
Tap the hotkey for hands-free recording, then press the hotkey again, Enter, or Esc when you finish speaking to confirm. Even for long passages, you never hold a key down. Hold it for about one second or longer for push-to-talk, then release it to stop. The transcript appears in the field you were using. Choose the recording gesture that fits.
Tap for hands-free on long passages, hold for a quick line. The same key, two ways to press it.
-
Tap to start a long passage
The default is ⌥ + Space. A short tap starts hands-free recording, which continues after you release the keys. Email or meeting notes — you never hold a key down while you talk.
-
Speak
The floating panel shows the live transcript, input level, and elapsed time while you speak.
-
Press the hotkey, Enter, or Esc to confirm
When you finish speaking, press the hotkey again, Enter, or Esc to confirm the audio captured so far and move on to transcription. The cleaned-up text lands in your field.
-
Hold for a quick line
Hold the hotkey for about one second or longer to record only while held, then release to stop. Handy for one-line replies and search terms.
A quiet tool for everyday writing.
Chat, email, documents — keep writing without returning to the keyboard.
-
On-device speech recognition
Transcription runs on your Mac using Apple Speech. No network connection, no API key, and no account required.
-
Conservative cleanup
Apple Foundation Models correct clear recognition errors and formatting only. No summarizing, no rephrasing, no changes in tone. What you said stays what you said.
-
Six speech languages
Voice input supports Japanese, English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Spanish. Switch languages from Settings.
-
Custom vocabulary and corrections
Register the names and technical terms you use often, and they become hints for recognition and cleanup. Corrections apply going forward only as rules you have approved.
-
Per-app behavior
Profiles switch based on the frontmost app, and text is pasted into its input field. You can also turn off auto-paste and have the text copied to the clipboard instead.
-
History off by default
History is disabled out of the box. If you turn it on, you can choose a retention period and delete all history and correction data from Settings.
Select a range—or just press—and replace it with the translation.
In an editable field, select a range or leave the selection empty and press ⌃ + ⌥ + T. The target is replaced with the translation only, which is also copied to the clipboard. Translation runs on your Mac.
We will send you the estimate by next Tuesday.
Range or whole fieldIn an editable field
来週の火曜までに見積もりをお送りします。
Replaced with translationNo original is appended
The clipboard holds only the translation
-
Replace the selected range
When you select a range, Onvilo replaces only that range with the translation. It does not leave a second copy of the original to remove.
-
Translate the whole field with no selection
When Onvilo can identify the focused field as editable, pressing the hotkey with no selection translates and replaces the whole field. The clipboard contains only the translation.
-
On-device translation
Translation uses Apple’s Translation framework and runs on your Mac. The target text is not sent to the operator’s servers.
-
A pair that follows your voice
The default pair is your speech language and English. The direction is chosen by detecting the language of the target text, and you can change the pair in Settings.
Each language requires a one-time download of its translation model. The hotkey can be changed in Settings. If Onvilo cannot identify the field as editable, select the range you want to translate explicitly.
Processed on your Mac, without our servers.
Onvilo itself does not send recorded audio, transcripts, cleaned-up text, translated text and its translations, or registered vocabulary to the operator’s servers. Pasting uses the general macOS clipboard.
- Speech recognition, text cleanup, and translation are processed entirely on your Mac.
- No analytics, no advertising SDKs, and no third-party crash reporting are bundled.
- No account and no sign-in.
- Temporary audio files created for processing are deleted once transcription finishes.
Why each permission is needed
What you need
- OS
- macOS 26 or later
- CPU
- Apple Silicon
- Speech model
- macOS downloads its speech recognition model the first time you use it.
- AI text cleanup
- Requires Apple Intelligence to be available on your Mac.
- Translation models
- Each language you translate requires a one-time download of its macOS translation model.
If Apple Intelligence is unavailable, dictation still works. AI cleanup is skipped, while basic notation cleanup and paragraph formatting still run.
Questions you might have
Is my audio saved?
Not in normal use. The temporary audio file created for processing is deleted once transcription finishes. Audio is never kept as history.
Is my audio or text sent to the operator?
Not by Onvilo itself. Speech recognition and text cleanup run on your Mac, and recorded audio, transcripts, cleaned-up text, and registered vocabulary are not sent to the operator’s servers. Pasting uses the general clipboard, so macOS Clipboard History, Universal Clipboard, or a clipboard manager may store or sync the pasted text.
Can I use it without Apple Intelligence?
Yes. When Apple Intelligence is unavailable, Onvilo skips AI cleanup but still applies basic notation cleanup and paragraph formatting. Speech recognition itself does not require Apple Intelligence.
Which apps can it type into?
It pastes into the input field of the frontmost app, as long as that app accepts text input. Some apps with their own input handling, or apps that reject synthesized keystrokes for security reasons, may not accept it. If that happens, turn off auto-paste and paste from the clipboard instead.
Why are Microphone, Accessibility, and Input Monitoring permissions required?
Microphone captures audio while recording. Accessibility checks the input field and inserts text directly. Input Monitoring is used only to send Command + V when direct insertion is unavailable. You can revoke any of these at any time in System Settings.
Can I use it without keeping any history?
Yes. History is disabled by default. If you enable it, you can choose a retention period of 7, 30, or 90 days or keep it indefinitely, and you can delete all history and correction data from Settings.
Is this a one-time purchase?
Yes. You can try every feature for a cumulative 20 minutes without a card. There is no subscription. One license covers up to three Macs used by the same person. The purchased version may be used indefinitely, and updates within the same major version are included. First purchases are eligible for a refund within 14 days.
How do I uninstall it?
Delete Onvilo from your Applications folder. Before doing so, use "Delete History and Correction Learning Data" in Settings to remove those records. To remove all local settings, also delete ~/Library/Application Support/Onvilo and the app’s UserDefaults. Clipboard history or copies stored by other apps must be removed separately.
Start with the 20-minute free quota.
Download Onvilo and open it once: a cumulative 20-minute quota covering every feature starts automatically, with no card required. When the quota runs out, the app itself points you to the purchase page.
